MANILA — Actor-director John Prats confirmed that he and former onscreen partner Heart Evangelista are set to work together on a new project, more than two decades after their popular “John-Hart” tandem captured the hearts of fans.
Prats said plans for the project came amid renewed interest in their tandem following their reunion after 23 years.
“The team discussed that we’re gonna have a project together. So, ‘yun pa lang ‘yung dini-disclose sa amin. Hindi pa namin alam kung ano pa ‘yung further details,” Prats said.
While he remained mum on whether it will be a movie or a series, Prats hinted that the project will stay true to what made their tandem popular.
“I’m sure the genre is very close to John-Hart. Kung saan naman kami siguro minahal, we’ll keep it talaga, yung core na ’yun,” he said.
Prats described the upcoming project as their “biggest fan service,” saying he and Evangelista want longtime supporters to be at the heart of their reunion.
“Gusto namin ibigay ito sa mga John-Hart. The main goal is the biggest fan service that we’re gonna do. Iisipin namin yung mga fans namin,” he said.
The actor-director noted that despite the popularity of their tandem in the early 2000s, he and Evangelista never had a solo project together.
“We never had a solo project together talaga. So, very excited,” he said.
Prats and Evangelista recently reunited when he appeared on the actress’ show, a meeting that sparked nostalgia among longtime fans and eventually led to more content featuring the former onscreen partners.
According to Prats, seeing Evangelista again after 23 years initially felt “weird” because of how different their lives and careers have become.
“Ang daming nangyari sa buhay namin. Nagkaroon kami ng kanya-kanyang buhay,” he said.
Evangelista has since become an international fashion personality, while Prats largely shifted his focus behind the camera as a director.
Prats admitted that before their reunion, he even wondered whether they would still know how to talk to each other after spending more than two decades apart.
But once they met, the familiarity quickly returned.
“Surprisingly, siya pa rin ’yung Love Marie na nakilala ko noong late ’90s, early 2000,” he said.
For Prats, their tandem represents an important chapter of his career.
“Ang laking chunk nung John and Heart sa career ko. Kumbaga, ’yun ako, ’yun ’yung peak ko nung career ko nung kaming dalawa. So, hindi ko makakalimutan ’yung journey namin together nung time na ’yun,” he said.
Prats said he was surprised by the overwhelming response from fans, particularly on social media something that did not exist during the height of their tandem.
“Na-amaze ako, na-flatter din ako at the same time. Kasi hindi ko na siya na-experience for the longest time,” he said.
Many longtime supporters have been sharing old clips, photos and edits of the pair, with some telling them that their reunion brought them back to a simpler time in their lives.
“Parang sinasabi nila, ‘Childhood namin ’to. Parang bumalik kami sa panahon na wala kaming problema.’ So iba ‘yung impact sa kanila. At natutuwa kami ni Heart doon sa mga comments na gano’n,” Prats said.
He added that while they experienced fans’ support through mall shows and other public appearances decades ago, seeing the “John-Hart” phenomenon play out online has been completely new for both of them.
“Yung love ng mga tao na-experience na namin sa mall show, sa premiere night, or kung saan kami pumunta. Pero ’yung sa social media, this is the first time na na-experience namin siya,” he said.
Prats also revealed that his wife, Isabel Oli, is supportive of the reunion. In a full-circle moment, Prats learned that Oli herself used to be a fan of “G-mik” and the John-Hart tandem and had even seen him and Evangelista at a mall show in Cebu years ago.
“Sobrang support talaga siya,” he said.
Their reunion has also spilled over into Prats’ personal style, with Evangelista helping update his wardrobe.
Prats, who said he has long been fascinated with bags and shoes, revealed that Evangelista encouraged him to move beyond his usual all-black wardrobe.
“Heart said na, ‘Enough with the all black,’” he recalled.
Evangelista also styled Prats for their recent content together.
“Siya nag-style nito. Like, ito ’yung galing sa last content namin. Inayos niya na ’yung wardrobe and everything. Tapos sabi ko, ‘Sige, susunod lang muna ako sa ’yo dito,’” he said.
Despite his possible return in front of the camera, Prats stressed that he has no plans of leaving directing behind.
“Hindi pwede. That’s my passion and love,” he said.
For now, Prats said he is both overwhelmed and excited by the unexpected revival of “John-Hart” and the prospect of acting alongside Evangelista again.
“Hindi ako ready pero na-excite ako,” he said.
As for whether fans will see their reunion project before the end of 2026, Prats said nothing is final yet.
“Sana humabol. But we’ll see,” he said.
