Body odor may contain surprisingly interesting information about romantic relationships.

A study examined how people rated the natural body odor of current or former romantic partners.

Among people who had experienced a breakup, greater historical relationship commitment was associated with more favorable ratings of their former partner's body odor.

The researchers also found relationships between current commitment, exposure to a partner's odor, and breakup intentions.

The study was relatively small, so the findings are preliminary.

Still, how pleasant your partner naturally smells to you may be connected with more than perfume or hygiene.
