Perspective-taking during conflict isn't only useful for the person trying to understand.

A 2026 study observed 178 young ãdül† couples discussing a relationship conflict.

When someone communicated that they understood their partner's perspective, it was associated with a more positive experience of the conflict for both partners.

It was also connected with greater relationship satisfaction.

The study highlights that conflict isn't simply two individuals managing their own emotions independently.

How one person tries to understand the other can change the experience for both people.
