People often imagine that one final conversation will completely resolve the emotional uncertainty surrounding a breakup.

An explanation can certainly provide useful information.

But emotional attachment and grief don't necessarily disappear simply because the intellectual question of “why?” has been answered.

People can also continue generating new questions after receiving answers.

Sometimes closure isn't one piece of information another person gives you; it's a gradual process of adapting to the relationship being over.
