Not every relationship begins with two strangers immediately feeling romantic attraction.

Research involving university students and adults found that a substantial proportion of romantic relationships began as friendships.

In one study, roughly two-thirds of participants reported being friends before becoming romantic partners.

Many also said they hadn't originally entered the friendship specifically intending to date that person.

Sometimes the person who becomes your partner wasn't originally a dating prospect at all.
