Opposites certainly can have successful relationships, but research generally doesn't support a simple rule that greater differences automatically create greater attraction.

People frequently pair with others who share similarities in areas such as attitudes, education, values, interests, and lifestyle.

Similarity can make understanding each other's priorities and everyday choices easier.

Differences can still add novelty and complementarity.

Dating isn't governed by one universal formula—sometimes opposites attract, but similarity is powerful too.
