The idea that highly similar personalities automatically produce better relationships isn't strongly supported in every area of relationship research.

Compatibility can involve shared values, goals, responsiveness, communication, and how partners manage differences rather than having matching personalities.

An introvert and an extrovert, for example, aren't automatically incompatible.

Two people can be noticeably different while developing routines that work well together.

Being compatible doesn't require becoming copies of each other.
