Over 3,000 schools were affected by the southwest monsoon (habagat) and Typhoon Maymay, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).
Based on the records from the Incident Management Reporting System, 1,929 sustained minor damage, 653 recorded major damage, while 617 were totally damaged.
The DepEd Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service continues to monitor the impact of the monsoon on schools across Luzon and Visayas.
The department is set to allocate ₱16,282,000 for clean-up and clearing operations for 597 affected schools; ₱94,521,000 will be allocated for the repair of 11,929 minor-damaged classrooms.
The clean-up, clearing, and repair operations aim to restore affected schools to good condition.
