Description
API 510, API 570 and API 653 are the three certifications that define a fixed equipment inspector. Most candidates prepare for one at a time, from a course that teaches the inspection code and stops.
That is not what the exams test.
Each one is an open-book examination drawing on a stack of referenced documents - ASME VIII and IX, ASME B31.3, API 571, 572, 574, 576, 577, 578, 579 and 580. Candidates fail not because they do not know the material but because they cannot find the controlling clause fast enough, or cannot work the calculation cleanly under time pressure.
This masterclass covers all three certifications and every major source document behind them, in one structured programme of over 26 hours.
WHAT IS INSIDE - EIGHT COMPLETE MODULES
API 510 - Pressure Vessel Inspector. The code and the inspector's role, ASME VIII design principles at inspector level, damage mechanisms and corrosion monitoring, inspection practices and NDE, repairs, alterations and rerating, plus a dedicated exam preparation section with worked calculations, code navigation drills and mock exam walkthrough.
API 570 - Piping Inspector. Piping classes and intervals, B31.3 pressure design for inspectors, damage mechanisms including injection points, dead legs and soil-to-air interfaces, thickness evaluation and retirement limits, risk-based inspection for piping, repairs and rerating, with its own exam preparation section.
API 653 - Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector. Tank anatomy and inspection intervals, tank damage mechanisms, shell evaluation and floor MFL scanning, minimum remaining thickness and internal interval setting, Annex B settlement evaluation including cosine-curve analysis, repairs, alterations and reconstruction, change of service and the brittle fracture exemption curve, plus exam preparation.
API 571 - Damage Mechanisms. The 'why' layer under all three certifications: thinning mechanisms from sulfidation to CUI, environment-assisted cracking including chloride SCC and wet H2S damage, high-temperature mechanisms including creep and HTHA with the Nelson curves, and metallurgical and mechanical mechanisms through to integrity operating windows.
API 577 - Welding Inspection & Metallurgy. Welding metallurgy and the heat affected zone, arc processes and consumables, WPS/PQR/WPQ qualification and essential variables, PWHT and hardness control, weld defects and cracking mechanisms, NDE method selection including PAUT and ToFD, and repair and in-service welding.
API 578 - Material Verification & PMI. Why material mix-ups happen and what they cost, XRF and OES capability and limits, risk-based programme extent, traceability and marking, nonconformance management, and integration with damage mechanism assessment and RBI.
API 572, 574 & 576 - Inspection Practices. How the inspection is actually performed: vessel internal and external survey, CML selection and thickness measurement practice, injection points and dead legs, buried and insulated piping, and pressure-relieving device inspection, testing and interval setting.
API 579 - Fitness-for-Service. What happens when the inspection finds something outside tolerance: assessment levels, the Remaining Strength Factor, general and local metal loss, pitting, HIC and SOHIC, crack-like flaws and the Failure Assessment Diagram, creep and fire damage, and the run-repair-rerate-replace decision.
SIX FULL MOCK EXAMINATIONS
Two practice examinations for each of the three certifications - timed, scored and retakeable. Most candidates who fail know the content; what they have not done is sit the paper under conditions. These fix that, and they are the single most useful thing in the programme.
