Parks, gardens, forests, and other green spaces provide more than somewhere to exercise. Research has associated exposure to natural environments with benefits including relaxation, physical activity, social interaction, and improved well-being.

The activity doesn't necessarily have to involve hiking or intense exercise. Walking, sitting, reading, or simply spending recreational time outdoors can provide a change from highly built-up environments.

Quick takeaway: Going outside for leisure can benefit more than physical activity alone.
