
Motivation doesn't always have to come before action. Beginning with a small step can reduce the psychological barrier surrounding a larger task and create momentum for continuing.
Behavioral researchers often use this principle when studying procrastination and goal pursuit. Writing one sentence can become a paragraph, and cleaning one corner can turn into cleaning an entire room. The hardest part is often moving from zero progress to some progress. Sometimes, action creates motivation rather than motivation creating action.
