Deep in Antarctica, scientists have discovered ice that has remained frozen for more than one million years. This ancient ice contains tiny bubbles of prehistoric air, allowing researchers to study Earth's atmosphere from a time before humans existed. Because the temperatures remain far below freezing year-round, some of this ice has survived for incredibly long periods. Scientists drill deep into the ice to recover these frozen time capsules. Every bubble is a snapshot of Earth's ancient climate.
