
Seeing only a few items left on a shelf often increases the desire to buy. Psychologists call this the scarcity effect. However, if the shelf is completely empty, people usually walk away instead of waiting.
Businesses understand this and try to keep products looking limited but still available. The balance creates urgency without causing frustration. A nearly empty shelf can be more persuasive than a full one.
