💡 Trivia Google has set a date for its farewell to Assistant.

As planned, Google is preparing to begin a phased transition from Assistant to Gemini on Android devices. The company initially planned to migrate most models to Gemini by the end of 2025, but the company failed to meet that deadline.

Until now, Google hadn't announced a precise date for the Assistant shutdown. Now, the company has begun sending users emails warning that the transition will begin on September 4 and will take several weeks. After the update, device owners will no longer be able to use the previous virtual assistant or re-select it instead of Gemini.

On compatible Android smartphones and tablets, Gemini will become the default assistant. Saying "Hey Google" and long-pressing the power button will launch it. This transition will also affect other devices. If Gemini is selected as the default assistant on a smartphone, it will also replace Assistant on compatible Wear OS watches, headsets, and headphones.

Owners of devices that don't meet Gemini requirements, as well as residents of regions where the service is not yet available, will be able to continue using Google Assistant temporarily. The company has not disclosed the exact timing of its complete shutdown.
