Bones appear solid, but they contain a honeycomb-like structure that makes them both lightweight and incredibly strong. This design allows the skeleton to support the body without making movement difficult.
Engineers have even studied bone structure when designing lightweight buildings and materials. The inside of many bones is filled with marrow, where new blood cells are produced. Strength and efficiency exist together inside every bone. Nature solved this engineering challenge millions of years ago.
