Tanzania's Lake Natron contains highly alkaline water that can preserve dead animals by coating them with mineral deposits. The animals are not instantly turned to stone, but over time they can become remarkably well-preserved. The lake's unique chemistry creates one of the world's most unusual natural environments.
Despite its harsh conditions, certain fish and flamingos thrive there. Nature often produces landscapes unlike anything we imagine.
