Although oceans cover more than 70% of Earth's surface, scientists estimate that over 80% of the ocean remains unexplored, unmapped, or unobserved. The immense pressure, darkness, and depth make exploration extremely difficult. New species are discovered almost every year, including fish, corals, jellyfish, and microorganisms.
Some parts of the deep sea are less explored than the surface of the Moon. As technology improves, researchers continue uncovering amazing secrets hidden beneath the waves.
