Flamingos are famous for their bright pink feathers and graceful appearance, but they also have one of the most unusual collective nouns in the animal kingdom. A group of flamingos is called a "flamboyance," a name inspired by their vibrant colors and striking behavior. These birds often gather in large colonies that can number in the thousands, helping protect each other from predators.

Flamingos synchronize many of their movements, including feeding and courtship displays. Their colorful appearance comes from pigments called carotenoids found in the algae and small crustaceans they eat.
