While the exact number of volcanoes on Earth is hard to pinpoint, scientists have recorded somewhere around 1,500 that have erupted in the past 10,000 years with another unknown number on the seafloor. Around 600 have erupted in recorded history and approximately 50-60 are erupting in any given year.
There are also 6 known supervolcanoes on Earth that erupt every 100,000 years on average, including one under Yellowstone National Park which almost destroyed the area 600,000 years ago as well as several historical super eruptions that came in both explosive and effusive forms, often changing the planet in dramatic (sometimes in life-extinction events) ways.
