Ampere v4.36.1 (Pro/Mod Extra)

Ampere measures the charging and discharging current of your device's battery to help evaluate the efficiency of different charger and USB cable combinations.

Technical Specifications & Requirements

  • Minimum OS: Android 4.0.3+
  • Target OS Compatibility: Android 16
  • Measurement Methodology: Displays an average value derived from 50 measurements, excluding the 10 highest and 10 lowest values to filter out system fluctuations.
  • Current Dynamics: Readings reflect net battery current. Discharging current displays as a negative value. When connected to power, the displayed value represents charger output minus system consumption (e.g., if the device consumes 300 mA and the charger provides 500 mA, the displayed current will be 200 mA).

App Features

  • Core Functionality: Real-time charging/discharging current measurement (takes ~10 seconds to stabilize).
  • Pro Features Unlocked:
    • Home screen widgets
    • Persistent notifications
    • Device-level alerts
    • Android Wear alerts
  • Modifications:
    • Unwanted permissions, receivers, providers, and services removed.
    • Advertisement layouts, links, and permissions stripped.
    • Debug code, Analytics, Crashlytics, and Firebase disabled.
    • Anonymous crash reporting, startup tutorial, and startup consent disabled.

Device Compatibility & Limitations

Measurement accuracy depends entirely on the device's hardware chip and system interface. Results are meant for relative comparison rather than absolute mA accuracy. Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries naturally draw less current as they approach full capacity.
CategoryDevice / ROM DetailsNotes
Partial CompatibilityHTC One M7, HTC One M8, LG G3Requires enabling "Old measurement method" and selecting the correct measurement interface in settings.
Inaccurate ReadingsSamsung Galaxy S5 (and select other Samsung devices)Firmware limitation: Displays maximum possible charging current instead of real-time measured values.
Unsupported DevicesGalaxy Grand Prime (fortuna3gdtv)

Galaxy Note 2 (t03g, t03gchn, t03gchnduos, t03gcmcc, t03gctc, t03gcuduos)

Galaxy S3 (d2att, d2spr, d2vmu)

Galaxy Tab4 7.0 (degas3g)

HTC Desire 510 (htc_a11ul8x26)

HTC One S (ville), X (endeavoru), XL (evita)

HTC Sensation 4G (pyramid)
Hardware or firmware lacks the required measurement chip or interface.

Troubleshooting

  • Constant 0mA Readings: Navigate to settings and enable the "Old measurement method" option (applicable for Lollipop devices with a compatible legacy interface).
  • Stuck on "Measuring" State: Commonly occurs after a system firmware upgrade. Resolvable by clearing application storage:
    1. Navigate to Android Settings > Apps > Ampere.
    2. Select Storage and choose Clear Data / Clear Cache.
    3. Restart the application.
