Overview
SmartTube is a third-party YouTube client for Android TV devices designed to bypass native YouTube advertising. The application architecture prohibits the display of ad banners, preroll ads, and ad intermissions.Technical Features
- SponsorBlock Integration: Supports crowdsourced skipping of sponsor segments, intros, outros, and reminders. Categories are configurable in settings. Note: Submission of new segments is not supported on TV platforms.
- Playback Capabilities: Supports 4k resolution and higher, 60fps, and HDR content.
- Playback Speed: Adjustable speed functionality via the gauge icon in the player interface; settings persist across videos. Note: Higher speeds may cause frame drops.
- Picture-in-Picture (PiP): Supports PiP mode. Configuration:
Settings > General > Background playback > Picture in picture. - Casting: Requires manual device linking via TV code rather than automatic network discovery. Configuration:
Settings > Link devices.
Voice Search Implementation
