Eto ang buong kwento:
Google has discontinued the Jibe Guest Cloud fallback system, which previously allowed Android users to access RCS (Rich Communication Services) even when their mobile carrier did not operate its own RCS platform. This shutdown that started around early August 2025 is happening worldwide, affecting all carriers that relied on Google’s hosted RCS solution.
With this change, Google is shifting responsibility back to mobile operators, especially as Google and Apple prepare for RCS and iMessage interoperability to enable smoother cross‑platform messaging.
Because Jibe Guest Cloud is no longer available, carriers must now operate their own RCS servers (or contract a hosted RCS provider) to ensure RCS continues working on both Android and, soon, iOS.
I contacted Smart Customer Service (*888) and DITO Customer Service (185). Here’s what each one said:
- Smart: They stated that they are working to restore the RCS feature as soon as possible.
- DITO: They advised contacting Google regarding the restoration of RCS on the DITO network.
Based on these responses, Smart appears to be working toward deploying or restoring its own RCS infrastructure, while DITO may not be taking the same approach at this time.
My advice is this: if your RCS status still shows
“Connected
”, avoid removing or replacing your SIM card. If you’re using an eSIM, avoid switching to another number, as doing so may cause RCS to deactivate, and without carrier-side RCS support, it may not reconnect.
