After winning a prestigious competition, talented French chef Yoon Ji-young (Im Yoon-ah) suddenly finds himself back in the Joseon Dynasty. He is caught up in the palace of King Lee Heon (Lee Chae-min), a ruler with a discerning taste and a reputation for cruelty. Yoon Ji-young must create dishes that will please the king by combining modern and traditional cooking, or his life will be in danger. Along the way, he clashes with Kang Mok-joo (Kang Han-na), the king’s ambitious concubine, and Prince Jesan (Choi Goo-hwa), Lee Heon’s political rival. With the help of palace maid Gil-geum (Yoon So-ah) and trusted advisor Im Seong-jae (Oh Eui-sik), Yoon Ji-young faces palace intrigues and culinary challenges. A romantic relationship develops between her and the king that will affect history. The ending surprises the audience by revealing the secrets of the palace.
