PHIn a joint statement issued over the weekend, Rise Up for Life and for Rights and the National Union of Peoples' Lawyers (NUPL) said the sanctions pose a serious threat to judicial independence and to victims' right to truth and justice. Executive Order 14203, issued by US President Donald Trump, sanctioned five ICC officials — including judges involved in high-profile cases targeting US allies and former heads of state. Among them is Judge Reine Adelaide Sophie Alapini Gansou, who sits on Duterte's pre-trial chamber and who also approved warrants of arrest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes.
