Martin Skarden (Luke Arnold), an investigative journalist, is sent to the small town of Riversend to investigate the murder of five church members by a young priest, Byron Swift (Jay Ryan). Martin teams up with local bookseller Mandy Bond (Bella Heathcote) and detective Beth Ramachandran (Sarah Roberts). He gathers leads with local policeman Doug Monckton (Toby Truslaw) and local activist Scotty Walti (Luke Carroll). Cafe owner Fran Landers (Victoria Thin) and businessman Craig Landers (Martin Copping) provide information about Byron. Churchmen Denise Speight (Debra Lawrence) and Jesper Speight (Hamish Michael) have secrets to hide.Landlord Harley Reagan (Robert Taylor) and veteran journalist Vern Jones (David Roberts) hint at the town’s past. Byron’s friend Robbie Haas-Jones (Adam Zavar) and teacher Jennifer Hayes (Caroline Brazier) provide clues. Local mobster Nick Poulos (Luke Pegler) and new pastor Dave Hannan (Radek Junak) complicate the case. Town youth Jamie Landers (Zane Sciarrama) and Alan Newkirk (Stacy Clausen) uncover secrets. Martin gets closer to the truth as he uncovers the connection between the murders and corruption and Byron’s past. The series ends with a dramatic climax and a message of justice.
