Chaos Corona 12 - Update 2

maxresdefault.webp

Chaos Corona 12 Update 2, released in late April 2025, is a significant update focusing on workflow enhancements, expanded content, and laying the groundwork for future features.

  • Chaos Scans in Cosmos: Over 3,100 high-quality scanned materials from the Chaos Scans library are now directly accessible within Chaos Cosmos. This allows for easy drag-and-drop application of realistic materials like metal, leather, paper, plastic, and rubber, streamlining the material selection process. Premium users can also edit these materials.
  • Automatic Virtual Tours: A new "Auto Hotspots" feature enables the creation of immersive panorama virtual tours directly from the Corona VFB and Chaos Cloud, without needing separate software. Users can customize these tours with floor plans, transitions, and annotations.
  • Differential Ray Filtering: This new filtering technique improves the sharpness of textures seen through refraction and some reflections, as well as in specific camera projections like spherical and fisheye. This enhancement contributes to clearer and more realistic visuals and is a step towards the upcoming Toon Shader in Corona 13.
  • Per Camera Global Volume Override (3ds Max, coming soon to Cinema 4D): This feature allows users to set different global volume settings (like fog or haze) for each camera in a scene, providing greater artistic control over the atmosphere from various viewpoints.
  • Faster IR Parsing (3ds Max): When scrubbing through the timeline with Interactive Rendering (IR) active in 3ds Max, Corona now only re-parses the modified objects instead of the entire scene, leading to a significantly faster and smoother workflow.
  • New LUTs: The update includes 18 new Look-Up Tables (LUTs) created by community artist Iraban Dutta, offering a wider range of cinematic and stylistic color grading options.
  • Cinema 4D Improvements:
    • Node Material Editor Minimap: A new minimap in the Corona Node Material Editor helps users navigate complex material setups more easily.
    • Converter Improvements: The Corona Converter in Cinema 4D can now handle more V-Ray materials and objects, including V-Ray Clipper, V-Ray Triplanar, V-Ray Two-Sided material, V-Ray Blend material, V-Ray Geometry tag, V-Ray Proxy, V-Ray Decal, and V-Ray Enmesh.
  • Support for Anima 6: 1 Corona now supports Anima 2 6, allowing for the integration of dynamic vehicle and crowd animations with improved realism and traffic simulation.

  • Vantage Live Link Enhancements: The Vantage Live Link now features start/stop controls and a progress bar for easier management of real-time rendering workflows.
  • Sun Directionality: A new parameter in the Corona Sun object allows artists to control the focus of sunlight, similar to anisotropy in volume shaders, for subtle but effective adjustments to outdoor lighting.
  • Static Mesh Export from Chaos Scatter: Chaos Scatter now allows users to export scattered distributions as a single static mesh, simplifying scene management and making instanced assets easier to handle.
  • Consistent Corona Sky: The default setup for the Corona Sky object is now consistent across 3ds Max and Cinema 4D, reducing inconsistencies when migrating scenes between platforms.
