A 23-year-old Scottish man, Tyler Robert Buchanan, believed to be part of the Scattered Spider cybercrime group, has been extradited from Spain to the U.S. He faces charges including wire fraud, conspiracy, and identity theft for allegedly häçking into numerous companies and controlling over $26 million stolen from victims.
Buchanan was arrested in Spain in June 2024 following an FBI warrant related to 2022 SMS phishing attacks targeting companies like Twilio and LastPass, and SIM-swapping attacks against cryptocurrency investors. Investigations linked him to these attacks through shared usernames, email addresses used for phishing domains, and evidence found on his seized devices, including employee credentials and discussions about dividing stolen funds.
The FBI's investigation indicates that Buchanan and his co-conspirators targeted at least 45 companies. #forbidden# records also linked his UK internet address to a cryptocurrency wallet that processed over $26 million in bitcoin.
