PHOTOS OF LIAO WITH IMEE, ROQUE SURFACE FOLLOWING SURRENDER IN ANSON QUE CASE

Photos of David Tan Liao with Sen. Imee Marcos and former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque surfaced online over the weekend following Liao's surrender to authorities in connection with the kidnapping and killing of Filipino-Chinese businessman Anson Que and his driver, Armanie Pabillo.

Liao, a Chinese national also known as Xiao Chang Jiang, Yang Jianmin, and Michael Agad Yung, is one of three suspects now under police custody, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed. He voluntarily surrendered on Saturday, April 19, and admitted to participating in the crime.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said Liao feared for his life and cited personal reasons for coming forward. Meanwhile, two other suspects—Richardo Austria David and Raymart Catequista—were arrested by the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group in Roxas, Palawan, on Friday.

Authorities are still searching for two more Chinese nationals believed to be involved in the crime. CCTV footage and forensic evidence led to the identification of suspects and the discovery of the victims' bodies in Rodriguez, Rizal, on April 9.

The victims were last seen on March 29 after leaving Que's office in Valenzuela City. A ransom demand of US$20 million was sent to Que's family via WeChat the following day.

All three suspects are facing two counts of kidnapping for ransom with homicide, and inquest proceedings have been conducted at the Department of Justice.

The Que family thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, and the police for their swift response. Marbil also debunked false reports of additional kidnappings circulating on social media and warned of legal action against those spreading disinformation.

"There is no truth to these reports about the alleged kidnapping of business personalities. Such malicious disinformation will not be tolerated," Marbil said. "Anyone proven to be spreading fake news will be dealt with accordingly."
