GoodNight.

Post ko lang to dito....

For those who don't understand, why the "sub-saharan" comment became a meme and why it triggered most of the people from the South.

(Im apolitical, and I think of our politics as GRAY, not black and white. Im not siding with anyone here. This is just an observation so people would understand.)

Aside from the whole 'War on Drugs' fiasco (im not going to talk about this), Duterte won the 2016 elections because of the proposal of Federalism, the thought of going against 'Imperial Manila'.

Federalism, although not implemented, would give autonomy to each region, which means that we dont have to wait for the capital's consent. The Philippines would be decentralized and regions would enjoy their own policies, governance, etc.

This would ultimately redistribute power and wealth, giving regions a chance to grow on their own terms. Mindanao is rich with resources but most of us never really felt the resources go back to us (except during Duterte's time).

Unfortunately, most thought the PH wasnt ready for that setup.

Since the time of Spanish Rule, the economy revolved around Manila.

Resources and opportunities revolved within and around the capital, and the rest of the regions in the country were not really granted equal treatment.

Thus, for many Duterte became a symbol of retribution from the South.

So to go back, most of us, experienced backlash and discrimination as being from the South.
"May taxi ba dyan?"
"May mall ba dyan?"
"Bisaya mga katulong"
"Do you ride carabaos when you get to school?"

And unfortunately, this is deep rooted since the time of Rizal.

Even in his works Bisaya people were discriminated (if I remember correctly although not explicit).

So facing a comment like "sub-saharan" just added insult to injury for most people regarding what happened to their symbol, which is Duterte.

The guy who told "sub-saharan" just awakened generational deep rooted animosity from people of the South. People here are not fighting/arguing for their stand only against politics but also for their dignity against centuries worth of generational frustration and neglect from this regional and cultural rift.

So keep in mind, with facing someone, you might not be dealing with their political ideologies but also societal, cultural, and personal.

This post isnt to show people what is right or wrong, this is to make people understand why some are standing their ground on what they believe in (even if its groundlessly and blindly for some).
