Petition to Reject ICC Jurisdiction Over Former President Rodrigo Duterte

To: The International Criminal Court (ICC), and Concerned Authorities

We, the undersigned, stand in firm support of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and his administration’s resolute efforts to combat îllégâl drugs and criminality in the Philippines. As responsible citizens who have witnessed the positive changes in our communities during his tenure, we believe that the accusations against him by the ICC are politically motivated and fail to recognize the realities of the Philippines’ fight against drugs and crime.

Under Duterte’s leadership, the nation saw a significant reduction in drug-related crimes, making our streets safer and restoring peace and order to many communities that had long suffered from the violence associated with îllégâl narcotics. His unwavering stance against crime was not a mere display of authority but a necessary action to protect the welfare of millions of Filipinos. His policies were aimed at safeguarding law-abiding citizens from the scourge of drug syndicates and criminal organizations that had long plagued the country.

The Philippines is a sovereign nation with its own justice system, law enforcement agencies, and independent judiciary. We believe that the country is fully capable of handling any allegations against former President Duterte through its own legal mechanisms, without interference from external bodies such as the ICC. Furthermore, we emphasize that the Philippine government had already withdrawn from the Rome Statute, making the ICC’s jurisdiction over the country questionable and illegitimate.

This petition seeks to E×ρréšš our strong opposition to the ICC’s continued pursuit of Duterte, as we view this as an affront to Philippine sovereignty and a failure to recognize the context of his war on drugs—a battle that was waged for the greater good of the nation. We urge the Philippine government to stand firm in rejecting ICC jurisdiction and to assert our nation’s right to address its internal affairs independently.

We call on fellow Filipinos and all supporters of justice to join us in defending a leader who prioritized the safety and security of the people above all else. Let us not allow international bodies to undermine our sovereignty and the will of the Filipino people.
