#ICMI| The Supreme Court (SC) has directed Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the Senate, and the House of Representatives to provide it with the original copies of the 2025 General Appropriations Bill and the 2025 General Appropriations Enrolled Bill which are needed to resolve the petition challenging the constitutionality of the 2025 national budget.
The said order was signed by Clerk of Court Atty. Marife Lomibao-Cuevas, enumerating key issues to be resolved by the court. It also laid down procedures for a preliminary conference set for February 28, 2025.
The Malacañang, through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the Senate, through Senate President Chiz Escudero, and the House of Representatives, through Speaker Martin Romualdez, are required to provide the documents on or before 12 noon on February 24, 2025.
This is ahead of the scheduled preliminary conference on February 28, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Session Hall of the Supreme Court, Padre Faura, Manila.
The SC earlier announced that the oral arguments for the petitions against the General Appropriations Act of 2025 are set for April 1, 2025, at around 2:00 P.M. and will be held at the Session Hall, Supreme Court Baguio Compound, Baguio City.
The order stemmed from the petitions for certiorari and prohibition that were filed by former Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez and Davao City 3rd District Representative Isidro Ungab, claiming that the 2025 national budget contains unconstitutional provisions, citing alleged "blank items" in the Bicameral Conference Committee Report.
