Authorities in Taytay, Rizal arrested a 26-year-old suspect who allegedly took his one-year-old daughter hostage.
According to the police, the hostage-taking took place in Barangay Sta Ana at around 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Rizal Provincial Police Office Director Police Colonel Felipe Maraggun said the suspect's live-in partner had previously accused the suspect of repeatedly molesting his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
“Ginawa niya halos *** toy yung bata. Tuwing may pagkakaton siya, nire-rape niya,” said the live-in partner.
The partner added that the suspect fled to the province, but they did not notice that he went home that Saturday evening.
After an hour-long negotiation, the suspect surrendered to authorities.
The baby had minor wounds on her neck where her father held a bladed object.
Maraggun said the suspect may be charged with violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Law; Alarm and *******; and îllégâl Possession of a Bladed, Pointed, or Blunt Weapon.

Authorities have arrested four minors, aged 14 to 15, following the gang rape of a teenage girl in a barangay within this municipality.
According to Lt. Col. Glenn Mar Avisa, town police chief of Datu Abdullah Sangki, the suspects—who are almost the same age as the victim—have confessed to the crime. Medical and other evidence confirmed the assault.
The incident occurred on January 23, and the victim, accompanied by her father, promptly reported the crime to the Philippine National Police (PNP). This led to the swift apprehension of the suspects the following day.
While specific details of the gang rape were not disclosed, authorities revealed that the victim and the suspects belong to the same community. Lt. Col. Avisa assured that cases will be filed against the perpetrators and emphasized their commitment to fighting sexual violence.
“This is a serious crime, and we stand with the public in ensuring that justice is served. We remain firm in our efforts to combat sexual violence in all its forms,” Avisa said in a statement.
The case highlights the pressing need for greater awareness and action to prevent sexual violence, particularly among youth in local communities. Authorities are calling on the public to remain vigilant and to work together to protect vulnerable individuals.
The suspects are now under police custody, while the victim and her family are receiving the necessary support and assistance.

A 58-year-old man was arrested on January 21, 2025, around 12:58 p.m. in Jovellar, Albay, for the alleged rape of a 6-year-old child, the child of his live-in partner. The arrest was made through a warrantless operation led by PCPT Rufino B. Casagan, in coordination with the RPSB Bagacay.
In a press release of Jovellar Municipal Police station, the accused is a jobless resident of Brgy. Bautista, Jovellar, and Albay were informed of his constitutional rights and the Anti-Torture Act in a dialect he understood. He was then brought to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) in Jovellar for a medical and physical examination.
Afterward, he was transferred to the local police station and charged with Statutory Rape at the Regional Trial Court Legazpi City.
The suspect is currently detained at the Jovellar Municipal Police Station.
