Is MrBeast the new CEO of TikTok?
Social media platform TikTok is about to close its journey in the U.S. following a federal ban on Sunday, January 19, leaving over 170 million American users.
According to reports, the ban signed in April 2024 dictates that TikTok will only be made available should its parent company from China, ByteDance, sell its assets to an American company before Sunday.
While many content creators from the U.S. have slowly bid their goodbyes to viewers, American YouTuber, media personality, and businessman MrBeast said on Thursday, January 16, that he is buying TikTok.
In a TikTok video uploaded to his TikTok account, MrBeast shared that he had connected with other billionaires and was ready to buy the platform.
“I just got out of a meeting with a bunch of billionaires; TikTok, we mean business,” said MrBeast.
He also showed his lawyer who held a briefcase with documents in it.
MrBeast said, “This is my lawyer right here [and] we have an offer ready for you. We want to buy the platform.”
“America deserves TikTok!” he reiterated.
Toward the end of his video, MrBeast appealed to TikTok and said, “Give me a seat at the table. Let me save this platform, TikTok.”
The YouTuber also updated his TikTok bio and wrote “New CEO of TikTok?”
As of this writing, TikTok has not yet responded to MrBeast's video.
Reports also indicate that U.S. president-elect Donald Trump is “considering issuing an executive order to suspend enforcement of a shutdown for 60 to 90 days,” but are not yet confirmed.
