For its part, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is looking at shifting work hours for national government agencies to 7am-4pm instead of the usual 8am-5 pm. You may recall that this isn’t a new policy, as local government units in NCR have already been following this schedule since last year.
By adjusting work hours, affected commuters and motorists will have to hit the road earlier both in the morning going to work and in the afternoon when returning home. The goal is for them to avoid rush hour and ultimately, lessen congestion on the road.
San Juan City mayor Francis Zamora also mentioned that he noticed the majority of transactions happening in City Hall over the years he’s worked there happen in the morning. “’Pag mas maaga magsisimula ang trabaho, mas maaga rin ba-biyahe lahat ng pupunta ng City Hall,” said Zamora. “Remember that you’re not just talking about those working in city hall but you’re also talking about those going to City Hall.”
The MMDA will send its recommendation to the President “as soon as possible.” It hasn’t provided a specific targeted timeline for implementation. But what do you guys think? My take: It is not really effective. Still waste of time at marami din tinatamad gumising ng napaka aga. Matraffic parin kahit agahan ang pasok nakikisabay pa sa pasok ng mga istudyante. Naging 7-4 na rin kami dati at ngayon balik sa 8-5 walang pinagbago ang traffic situation.
