"Isa lang naman ang gustong pumatay sa akin — si Martin Romualdez. And I don't think gagawin niya 'yan dito sa loob ng House of Representatives. Gagawin niya 'yan doon sa labas," Duterte alleged during a press briefing on Friday, November 22.
She further criticized Romualdez's character, referencing their shared experiences during the 2022 campaign, where Romualdez served as Duterte's campaign manager. "Because I know him, 'di ba? From the short time na nagkasama kami, I'm a good judge of character. Mabilis ako maka-assess ng isang tao. Nagkasama kami sa kampanya, and I'm no psychologist, pero that man has so much baggage and insecurities sa buhay niya," she said.
The statement comes amid escalating tensions between Duterte and Romualdez over the ongoing House probe into the alleged misuse of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds under Duterte's leadership at the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.
Romualdez has urged Duterte to personally attend the hearings, a call she has so far resisted.
