SOCIAL WEATHER REPORT | Families victimized by common crimes rise to 6.1% in September 2024; victimization by cybercrimes rises to 7.2%; neighborhood fears stay high

The national Social Weather Survey of September 14-23, 2024, found 6.1% of families reporting victimization by any of the common crimes (pickpocketing or robbery of personal property, break-ins, carnapping, and physical violence) within the past six months.

This is 2.3 points above the 3.8% in June 2024 and the highest since the 8.1% in September 2023 [Charts 1 and 2, Table 1].

At the same time, families victimized by cybercrimes rose sharply from 3.7% in June 2024 to a new record-high 7.2% in September 2024.

The September 2024 survey also found 56% of Filipino adults fearful of burglary, hardly changing from 55% in June 2024 [Chart 3, Table 2].

It found that 48% were fearful of walking the streets at night, barely changing from 50% in June 2024.

It also found that 41% noticed many drug addicts in the neighborhood, 5 points down from 46% in June 2024.
