A bill was filed in the House of Representatives on Friday to classify extrajudicial killings (EJKs) as heinous crimes, imposing harsher penalties on state agents and authorities convicted of such acts.
Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr. and House quad committee co-chairs Robert Ace Barbers, Bienvenido Abante, Dan Fernandez, and Stephen Joseph Paduano, along with vice-chair Romeo Acop, introduced House Bill (HB) 10986, the proposed Anti-Extrajudicial Killing Act.
The legislation aims to establish strict legal standards based on the Quad Committee’s investigation into EJKs to ensure accountability for perpetrators.
