The Supreme Court has ordered Cebu governor Gwen Garcia to pay damages to HSBC in the amount of US$700,000.00 plus 12% interest per annum to be reckoned from 2000 as well as legal fees.
At USD1 = PHP57;
thats roughly ₱39,900,000.00 plus the interest since 2000 or 24 years.
The Supreme Court has denied the petition of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia that challenged the alias writ of execution for her to pay damages to HSBC for failing to settle her debt, and called her out for filing “dilatory petitions.”
The SC Second Division directed the Makati Regional Trial Court to execute its August 22, 2012 resolution that had affirmed a ruling for Garcia to pay HSBC $700,000 in damages, plus 12 percent legal interest from July 17, 2000, and P404,560.50 as cost of suit.
