THE PAROJINOGS ARE BACK?

A police officer is one of the persons of interest in the robbery of two jewelry shops in Barangay Ermita here.

This was disclosed by the special investigation task group (SITG) created to solve the twin robberies after the suspected getaway vehicle was discovered to be owned by a police master sergeant assigned in Metro Manila.

The police officer was on leave when the robbers struck Macy’s Gold and Silver Jewelry Store and DGC D’ Gold Chain and Jewelry Store on August 8.

“We are preparing cases for these people so let’s see where the evidence will lead," said Macatangay in a press briefing at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) headquarters on Wednesday morning, August 14.

The suspected getaway vehicle, a silver and grey Mitsubishi Adventure, was recovered on Tuesday night, August 13, in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City.

The Carbon Police Station and Mandaue City Police Office arrested the driver of the SUV identified as Marcial Ponesto, a native of Lanao del Norte and resident of Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue.

Ponesto tried to escape but police eventually cornered. A hand grenade was recovered inside the SUV, police said.

The SUV was the same vehicle being boarded by a group of men after the robbery as shown in a security camera footage.

Motorcycle-riding men believed to be the robbers were seen transferring to the SUV.

Four of the suspects have been identified. The culprits are members of the Mindanao-based Parojinog Robbery Group, Macatangay said. Two of the suspects are believed to be still in Cebu
