Another game changer in the multipolar world has emerged but is largely ignored by the West: the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
What started out as a Russia - China led counterterrorism cooperation between the two nuclear powers with neighboring Central Asian republics has now grown into a geo-economic alliance that will most likely counter NATO.
The 24th meeting of the SCO was held in Astana, Kazakhstan on 04 July, coinciding with Amerca’s Independence Day commemoration.
The SCO 9 includes Russia, China, Iran, and India. These four countries are also members of the BRICS alliance so an SCO + BRICS merger is inevitable.
Note that three of the SCO 9 are nuclear states, but another nuclear state Pakistan who we know is India’s longtime rival is also a permanent member of the SCO.
Belarus has just been granted permanent member status this July meeting only, making it to the SCO 10.
Interestingly, Tǔrkiye a NATO member who has the largest standing army in the North Atlantic alliance — and is also applying for inclusion to BRICS — has a dialogue partner status with the SCO along with petroleum powerhouse Saudi Arabia.
Between the SCO and the BRICS they now have four nuclear armed countries, more than half of the world’s oil supply, perhaps three quarters of the world’s entire population, and probably close to 70% of global GDP.
Imagine that.
The world is changing faster than we think and the Americans really don’t care who is running their country refusing to acknowledge their growing isolation and waning global influence.
Among Asians, we Filipinos seem to only care about the next showbiz break up, the next ayuda, the next concert and is left out in this rapidly changing world order unable to exploit our geographical advantage in the Indo-Pacific choosing instead to be governed by an absent President whose only goal is to recover and preserve their wealth aiming to perpetuate themselves in power — again.
