Philippines deports 165 suspected scammers to China

The Philippines said Wednesday it had deported 165 Chinese citizens it accused of working in an online scam centre based in the north of the country.

The group were flown to Shanghai on Tuesday and forever barred from returning to the Philippines, the immigration bureau said in a statement.

The deportees were among hundreds of employees, Filipino and foreign, rounded up by an anti-crime government task force in a raid of an office compound in the northern municipality of Bamban on March 14.

The 165 were involved in “scamming activities” and did not have proper travel documents, making them “undesirable aliens”, the immigration statement said.

After the raid, the authorities said some of the workers were forced into it and “were controlled by having their passports confiscated so they were unable to leave”.

The raid occurred following a tip-off from one of the Vietnamese workers who sought police help after he said escaped from the compound.

Across Southeast Asia, scam centres have mushroomed, with crime syndicates luring, kidnapping or coercing workers into predatory online activity.

The scam industry is raking in unprecedented sums, the equivalent of billions of dollars, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

Victims have reported travelling across the region, often on the pretence of romance or high-paying jobs but finding themselves forced instead to cajole people into ploughing money into fake investment

hehe sabihin mo yan sa vangag na government kasi until now wala pa rin silang plano na total ban sa POGO bossing, but if gusto mo malaman yung stand ko bossing, i don't want to ban POGO given na only 1 case lang ang meron conviction of all 204 cases filed against them
That's why I totally agree with the Senate and the House of Representatives to conduct and investigate POGO, kase kung hinayaan lang natin ito malamang sa malamang, di malayong magkakaroon tayo ng POGOlitics, a goverment official who is under control of POGO.

So why not bring back to China if it is Good for their country to operate.
China bans ******** in their country.

Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) online ******** services to markets outside the Philippines.

Ibig sabihin Online ******** Business that catering the gambler peope of China.

hehe POGOs operate in other countries because they are banned in China bossing, their client are all chinese kaya nga the operators must know mandarin
Wala akong balak makinabang jn at walang magandang kinabukasan para ating mamamayang Filipino sa POGOs na yan, so BAN at dapat managot ang dapat managot ang mga opisyal na pulpol na nakikinabang jn.
all ga̾mbling does not happen here bossing, nasa mainland nangyayari ang sugal, ang nangyayari lang dito is they provide job opportunities for pinoys to do admin works and give lots of taxes, but yung sugal ay nasa china

Aside from malaking kinikita sa POGO (dito nasilaw ang ang past admin) I can't see any significant positive aspects of POGO.

the hearing itself is being politicized bossing, nagpapakitang gilas yung mga re-electionist hehe

yup ayos lang yan na wala kang makitang benefit since di ka naman economist, that is the reason why hindi nakikinig ang government sa findings mo bossing kasi mga economist sila and they need to be careful in implementing such a huge ban

Even the investigation of PDEA Leaks which is not a leak btw has no substance and Bato wants to waste his time insisting that the documents are verified without supporting evidence. It seems that he used his time to tarnish the current government (where's their Unity?), he can't even prove that the President is involved in this.

it is because di mo alam ang purpose ng investigation bossing, involvement of vangag junior has nothing to do with the hearing bossing, it is about how effective PDEA keeps its confidential docs

Well, we already know that there are no confidential docs are leaked. And hope that Bato takes note in aiding the law when it comes to drug testing just like what Chiz noted.

yup Chiz made it clear that as of the moment ang nangyari ay hindi leak since personal files pa lang but the committee can actually legislate a law making personal files as property of the government especially when those files are produced in the performance of the agent's duty

Bakit sa China? Doon kasi mas maraming scammers eh... Mauulit si Philippines
