Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is a story that takes place both in our past and our future. In his fantasy world, only women can use the One Power safely. Codex Alera Series (#tsundere_anime)
The Codex Alera is six books spanning about ten years of the life of Tavi, the hero and the events that happen on his world during that time (His world isn't Earth. The Lost Roman Legion got really lost). It starts off in roughly his middle teens and he comes into adulthood as he goes.
