A proposition to have a nationwide requirement of enrolling our prepaid subscriber identification modules (SIM) cards is being pushed in the Senate to address mobile-related crimes/violations.

The Senate bill 7 or the Sim Card Registration Act of 2016 tries to “eliminate mobile phone-aided terrorism and criminal exercises” by enlisting all prepaid SIMs and restricting every individual to own only just up to three SIM cards “over all service providers.”

With the huge number of bomb alarms flooding Metro Manila and Davao City since the Davaonight market bombing incident and the nationwide declaration of state of lawlessness, two senators have approached President Rodrigo Duterte to certify as urgent bills that would order the enrollment of prepaid subscriber identification modules (SIM) cards.
