The tiny holes on padlocks make sure they don't get jammed

Log in or register now. serve a dual purpose: They allow any moisture that builds up inside to escape, and they allow you to add oil to the inner mechanisms to prevent rust and breakdown. Because padlocks are usually used outdoors, allowing the water to run out keeps the locks from rusting, and in colder climates, keeps the lock from being frozen shut. If you're ever having issues opening a padlock, stick some WD40 into the tiny holes and you should be able to open it without a problem.
