China’s military said guided-missile destroyer USS Milius intruded into China’s territorial waters near the contested Paracel Islands.
The Pentagon has refuted Chinese claims that a US destroyer was driven from the South China Sea after it "illegally" entered the area near the disputed Paracel Islands.
The guided-missile destroyer USS Milius allegedly entered Chinese territorial waters without authorization on Thursday, jeopardizing peace and stability in the busiest waterway, according to a statement from the Chinese military.
However, this was ruled to be false by the US Navy.
“The USS Milius is conducting routine operations in the South China Sea and was not expelled. The United States will continue to fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows,” a statement from the US Navy 7th Fleet said.
