Yakutia, also known as the Sakha Republic, is a federal subject of Russia located in the Far Eastern region of the country. It is the largest subnational governing body by area in the world, covering an area of about 3.1 million square kilometers. Yakutia is bordered by the Laptev Sea and the East Siberian Sea to the north, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug to the northeast, the Magadan Oblast to the east, the Khabarovsk Krai and Amur Oblast to the southeast, the Republic of Buryatia and Irkutsk Oblast to the southwest, and the Krasnoyarsk Krai to the west.
