The Nissan GT-R R35 still has that wow factor after all these years.
Nissan unveiled the updated version of its 15-year-old supercar slayer at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon. It's the first major tweak since Nissan last refreshed the GT-R in 2017, coming with a minor face and **** lift, aero upgrades, drivetrain enhancements, and the return of some signature GT-R colors for a fresh visual flair.
Right off the bat, the 2024 GT-R receives a new front fascia that adopts a boxier look. Noticeably, the signature V-motion upper grille has been changed for a longer and sleeker one, while the side intakes have been integrated into the main grille profile. Meanwhile, the corner DRLs from the 2012 facelift has returned, albeit with a honeycomb design and a slightly higher placement on the bumper.
At the rear, the area between the diffuser and the iconic quad taillights has been reshaped to taper less than the previous model. The GT-R gets bigger rear fog lamps and now sits right in between the center diffuser opening. In addition, the exhaust system has been revised for a better flow while keeping noise in check, while the quad exits now feature titanium burnt tips.
For the 2024 model year, Nissan brought back the GT-R T-Spec version. Coming along with the limited-edition variant is the Millennium Jade and Midnight Purple colors that pay homage to the R34 Skyline V-Spec and V-Spec II Nur models. Also, the T-Spec comes with 20-inch gold wheels made by Rays, plus the Nismo version's carbon ceramic brakes.
Under the hood of all 2024 GT-R models lies the same hand-built VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 engine. Power output remains the same at 570 PS with 637 Nm of torque and is channeled to all four wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the ATTESA ET-S all-wheel-drive system.
Of course, if all that still leaves you wanting for more, the top-dog GT-R NISMO is there to kick things up a notch. Using turbos derived from the GT3 race car, the NISMO version produces 600 PS and 652 Nm of torque. Nissan added for the first time a front limited-slip differential to further increase mechanical grip, plus bigger carbon ceramic rotors for better stopping power.
The NISMO version also features a more aggressive bodywork with carbon fiber trims found on the roof, hood, fenders, wing, side sill covers, and outer mirror housings. The rear wing has been made 10 percent larger, and now uses a swan neck upright to further optimize drag and downforce.
Inside, the GT-R NISMO gets exclusive Recaro carbon back bucket seats, providing a better feel for the car while increasing comfort for the passengers.
Nissan says the 2024 GT-R is planned to hit the global market by around mid-2023, while the NISMO versions will follow a little later in the year.
