PAGANO BA ANG PASKO?

------

SATURNALIA, SOL INVICTUS, AT PASKO
25aa.webp
Historically, may ginaganap na pagan festival sa ancient Rome na tinatawag na "Saturnalia" in honor of Saturn, the Roman god of agriculture and time tuwing December 17-23. Ang 25th day of December naman ay dedicated sa birthday ng pagan sun-god named Sol Invictus ("The Unconquerable Sun") who became the official deity of Rome. Pinagdiriwang nila ang season na 'to by gift-giving, decorating wreaths and other greenery, pagsusuot ng colorful clothes at pagpa-party. Saturnalia was considered the merriest Roman festival that time.

SO, PAGAN NGA BA?

This is closely related sa instance na some believers, usually from Protestant faith, ay may negative connotation sa Pasko just because the word "Christmas" has its origin sa term na "Christ-mass" na associated sa Catholic practices.

Today, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the Son of God as human being, not the birth of the so-called sun-god. Nagsusuot tayo ng colorful, nagde-decorate at nagsasaya, hindi naman dahil masagana ang ani, kundi dahil we celebrate the truth that sometime in history, the Savior was born. Nagsisindi tayo ng kandila, because we believe that Jesus is the Light of the world (Jn 8:12) hindi dahil substitute ang "light" sa human sacrifice ("man" and "light" both had the same Greek term: phota). Also, makikita rin natin ang connection ng idea ng substitution to human sacrifice ng mga Romans sa Christian faith, dahil si Jesus ang naging human sacrifice para sa'ting lahat by being our substitute (1 Ptr 2:23-25; Mk 10:45).

We are all after sa biblical meanings ng Pasko kasama ng traditions nito. The earliest Christians who celebrated Christmas in December, hindi rin naman ginawa ang mga practices for the sake of these pagan beliefs. Kaya nga nakakapagtaka kung ikaw ay believer tapos panay-hukay ka ng mga pagan meanings without considering first the biblical significance. (Hala, pagano ka ba?)

Kung ang Christmas traditions ay hindi naman mako-consider na pagan practices, can we say at least na ang Christmas ay pagan origin na nag-transform lang into a Christian holiday? No. We lack any evidence to support that. Kung gusto natin malaman talaga ang pinanggalingan ng Pasko, we should all go back to Bethlehem when Christ was born as stated by the Gospels. The same reason why we celebrate Christmas.

But rather as "remnants" and "trophies" of Christ's triumph, proving that Sol Invictus, the "Unconquerable Sun-god" of the ancient Rome, was conquered by the Son of God Himself ---who was born of a ******, laid in a manger.

lol it is a symbol of a religion compromised by another religions, basically christianity was tweaked a bit to fit with the pagans

That is not even news. Alam ng mga serious theists na ang religion ay parang battle of the gods. Defeat them or let them in.
Very zealot mindset para sa isang agnostic.

Basa ulit. ;)
nah you're just thinking christianity owned pagans, may pina holy pa but actually you've got compromized

lol haha ok lang iyan if it impacted you as news which you disagree

Even evolution works that way. You evolve to compromise, then natural selection to compete.
Only zealots would think that it's wrong.

evolve to compromise? so christianity now accepts evolution? akala ko ba complete (mess) na yung bible tas ngayon pwede na pala ma-develop/evolve/update

Oo. Compromise twag dun kahit pano isipin.
haha the cutting technique to eliminate the context, since out of context na reply i'm out

so now you call the book as bible without the new testament? magkaiba siguro tayo sagot sa when did the bible get completed
Kino conflate mo ang bible at ang tradition. Magkaiba yun. Bible is already complete. Pero traditions will continue to evolve. Im sure magiging acceptable na ang homosexuality at some point, maybe not in my lifetime, pero it will happen. Only zealots will think that its a bad thing.

haha out of context again, i'm out again

Ikaw tlga ang nagpupumilit umalis sa context. Iniiba mo lng kasi dead end na logic mo.
but anyways, it's good that positive ang view mo na christianity can eventually compromise a bit with homosexuality, ayan ha dapat happy ka na nag support na ako sa iyo kasi takot ako maging zealot haha
