The above experiment is used to understand the working of Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO). As the name says the function of the VCO is to produce variable frequency sinewave signal corresponding to the reference DC input signal.

Depending on or by Adjusting the input voltage given at the input of the Oscillatore the output frequency can be obtained in a designed frequency range.

In above experiment what has been done is we are understanding the working principle of the VCO, so intially we measure the output signal voltage and noted it.

As per the working of the VCO variation in the input signal only corresponds to change in the output signal frequency and not output signal voltage. Therefore we tune the Frequency Adjust Control from clockwise to anticlockwise only the frequency changes.

There are two conditions tested in the experiment for VCO connected at LO pos and at HI pos, basically this LO pos indicates the input signal is of LOW input range and HI po indicates the input signal is of HIGH input range. By varying the Frequency Adjust Control from clockwise to anticlockwise, in both cases of LO pos and HI pos, we are just using the entire input signal voltage range available for particular connection.

When connected to LO pos and Frequency Adjust Control is at extreme clockwise direction, we have minimum input signal in LO pos supply and hence Low output frequency.

When connected to LO pos and Frequency Adjust Control is at extreme anticlockwise direction, we have maximum input signal in LO pos supply and hence High output frequency.

When connected to HI pos and Frequency Adjust Control is at extreme clockwise direction, we have minimum input signal in HI pos supply and hence Low output frequency.

When connected to HI pos and Frequency Adjust Control is at extreme anticlockwise direction, we have maximum input signal in HI pos supply and hence High output frequency.
