I have no reference to post though, but as far as i know, though it is slightly exaggerated, it still doesn't change the fact that the administration was very corrupt at that time. Some say Marcos was corrupt and some would also say it was the people under his command abused their power, nevertheless, it was chaotic in the end part of his term. FEM eventually decided to declare martial law because it was that chaotic.
Why chaotic?
The administration up fronting all the establishments they build, but then it was later revealed that no bidding happened prior to building them. So all of the projects were granted to contractors loyal to the Marcos administration. Kung walang bidding, it would mean contractors could easily over price the cost of it. Also, lot of these establishments didn't even gain to return the investments of it. That is why you would hear the common tag line, "di ka pa pinanganak may utang ka na", it is because of the Marcos administration. Umutang sila ng pagka lakilaki for building establishments, but the reality, a lot of it didn't have the return of investment they expected plus the over price cost pa, garapalang korapsyon ika nga. When people knew this, it lit the fire. You might also heard this, may mga rebelde pa noon na pumapasok sa mga bahay to ransack civilians, and yes it was all true. It was also the fault of Marcos administration and i think this was the main reason why he declared martial law. Madaming naging rebelde kasi basta tinamad na ako mag type lol. Bottom line, the information we get from text books isn't far from the truth, a littl exaggerated? yes but it did happen and people already forgot, sadly.
